Fieldwork
Students

Goals

Our student fieldwork programs for occupational therapy and speech language pathology are designed to:

  • Provide education and experience in pediatric practice in a private, outpatient clinic with a focus on sensory / processing, play - based, and neurodiversity affirming therapy approaches.

  • Practice treatment planning and implementation of intervention with children in a variety of age groups and different diagnoses.

  • Practice administering and scoring standardized pediatric therapy assessments.

  • Practice communicating with families regarding their child’s progress in therapy and home programming.

  • Promote inter-disciplinary practice among the therapy team at Whole Circle.

  • Provide students with experiences that will prepare them for a profession as a pediatric occupational therapist or speech language pathologist.

Details

We accept applicants for fieldwork students who have strong interest in pediatrics and are interested in working in the Portland area after graduation. As a teaching clinic, we maintain excellent equipment, evidenced based practice, and highly trained clinical therapists to provide quality educational experiences. Whole Circle works with Level II and Capstone occupational therapy students and speech language pathology students in their 3rd or 4th clinical practicum.

Steps for placement as a Student

  • Contact your University’s Fieldwork Coordinator

  • Your fieldwork coordinator can then contact Whole Circle via email: info@wholecircletherapy.com.

  • At that time, we will confirm whether there is availability that matches your placement period and complete an affiliation agreement.

  • Please provide your fieldwork coordinator a cover letter and resume. Before confirming placement, we will schedule a virtual interview to ensure you are a great fit!

We are unable to schedule fieldwork placements through students.

Shadowing
Volunteering

As a student observer, you will be required to:

  • Complete background check ($25) - a link will be sent to you once your placement has been approved

  • Sign the observation/volunteer agreement

  • Track your own observation hours

  • Communicate any absences with the clinic coordinator

Details

As a student observer at Whole Circle Pediatric Therapy, you will have the opportunity to see our amazing team of therapists provide therapy to children of a wide variety of ages and diagnoses.

Student observers are asked to provide 1 hour of volunteer work for every 1 hour of observation. Volunteer tasks are intended to help with the day-to-day flow of the clinic and include light cleaning, organization, or other projects needed by therapists. Placements typically last for one quarter.
